{"id":1753,"date":"2021-09-12T14:24:28","date_gmt":"2021-09-12T20:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/?p=1753"},"modified":"2021-09-12T14:43:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-12T20:43:53","slug":"hispanic-heritage-month-books-for-teens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/hispanic-heritage-month-books-for-teens\/","title":{"rendered":"7 Hispanic Heritage Month Books for Teens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>September 15 &#8211; October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month.\u00a0 In honor of the National Month, I have collected my recommendations of 7 Hispanic Heritage Month Books for Teens you can add to your classroom library.\u00a0 I also challenge you to read them yourself.<\/p>\n<p>In the first school I ever taught, I had classes of almost 100% Hispanic teens.\u00a0 I wish I could say that at the time I actively looked for books for my students to read that had Hispanic characters, but I didn&#8217;t. We read very few books with diverse characters.\u00a0 It is something that I regret.\u00a0 But I am trying to do better.\u00a0 If I were to go back and redo those first few years, the literature I chose to read in class would be completely different.<\/p>\n<p>The following list of books ranges from myth to horror.\u00a0 Fiction to non-fiction.\u00a0 And covers Latinx culture across Central and South America.\u00a0 The stories take place in the past and in the Dystopian future.\u00a0 There really is something for everyone.<\/p>\n<h2>1. <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/2VzbcKM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mexican Gothic<\/a> by Silvia Moreno-Garcia<\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"JsGRdQ\">Part mystery, part gothic horror story.<\/span> <span class=\"JsGRdQ\">Can Noem\u00ed save her cousin&#8217;s life before her husband succeeds in killing her? A beautiful mansion in the Mexican countryside hides dark secrets. With strange dreams and visions, Noemi is forced to stay.
