It alters your vibration, moving you from negative energy to positive.\u201d\u00a0 But I guess I wasn\u2019t listening all those years ago.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year I started a deliberate practice of gratitude within my own teaching life.\u00a0 We\u2019ve all been there \u2013 it\u2019s a rough year, it\u2019s a rough bunch of kids, my team\/department\/principal is driving me crazy (or doesn\u2019t appreciate me).<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every day I tried to write down 3 things that made today a \u201cGood Day at Work.\u201d\u00a0 I kept them in my notes on my phone.\u00a0 Some days it took some time to come up with three things and some days I only had 2 or even 1 thing to write down.\u00a0 And then there were the days I couldn\u2019t seem to stop writing.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dc34d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"9dc34d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-212x300.jpg\" class=\"attachment-medium size-medium wp-image-429\" alt=\"Today is a good day for a good day.\" srcset=\"https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-600x849.jpg 600w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-724x1024.jpg 724w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-768x1086.jpg 768w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-1086x1536.jpg 1086w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1-1448x2048.jpg 1448w, https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/1.jpg 1587w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" data-pin-description=\"Today is a good day for a good day.\" data-pin-title=\"Today is a good day for a good day.\" data-pin-url=\"https:\/\/educationispowerful.net\/gratitude-journal\/?tp_image_id=429\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d8356f6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d8356f6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gratitude can change our outlook, our energy, our positivity \u2013 and now I know it can change lives \u2013 my life to be specific.\u00a0 I ended every day by thinking about the good, not the bad.\u00a0 I remembered my student who stopped after class to tell me thank you, not the kid who fell asleep in class.\u00a0 I remembered the compliments from my colleagues.\u00a0 I focussed on what was working and going right, rather than what went wrong.\u00a0 And I went home happier and more energized and excited to come back the next day.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was happy \u2013 and people noticed. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 212\/300;\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9c2d07f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9c2d07f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The best day was the first time a student complained that they didn\u2019t have enough room in the journals I made for them.\u00a0 Or when they needed more time.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The absolute most wonderful day was when students wanted to start sharing their good day moments.\u00a0 Then \u2013 my class culture changed.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t force this.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t an assignment to turn to a neighbor and share.\u00a0 It happened organically.\u00a0 Here is why I think this happened this way:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I consistently had students write in their Good Day Journals<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I wrote my own Good Day Journal<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Then I started sharing some of my entries aloud<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Them I kept a place on my board for me to write down my Good Day moments so other class periods could see them<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I would stop mid-teaching when something awesome would happen and add it to my Good Day section of my board<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I started asking students to write It on a post-it note and stick it on our poster (anonymously) or to write them on the whiteboard in the back of the room \u2013 if they wanted<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And then one day, a student wanted to share aloud<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just like with myself, some days are better than others.\u00a0 Students are especially sassy the days we have tests or have to write essays and say \u201cThere is nothing good about today\u201d and so I encourage them to think outside this classroom to all the other great things going on in their lives.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does it take time? Yes.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Could you argue it has nothing to do with the curriculum?
